2019 NATSO Foundation Bill Moon Scholarship Winners

The NATSO Foundation is pleased to announce that it has awarded $ 25,000 in scholarships to deserving students and the truckstop and travel plaza industry to higher education in 2019. Five students each were awarded $ 5,000 under Bill Moon education , which helps truckstop and travel plaza of work, workers and their families to strengthen education.

The winners of the 2019 NATSO Foundation Bill Moon Scholarship:

Kelly Bolton. Bolton is an employee Muralt Ambest Travel Plaza in Missoula, Montana. By studying the forest planning solution Kootenai College.

Carianne Jones. Jones is an employee at the TravelCenters of America # 241. Jones attended Purdue University, Northwest as a first-year graduate student and was followed by the Masters of Accountancy degree, as well as a graduate certificate in forensic accounting money and fraud investigation.

About NATSO Foundation Bill Moon education in 2019

For almost 20 years, Bill Moon Scholarship Program is to change lives. The scholarship provides much needed and deserved industry to prepare students to post-secondary education and has donated over $ 250,000 in scholarships. In every year since 1993 The NATSO Foundation has awarded scholarships of $ 2,500 each to selected industrial workers and their children to help pay for college. In 2013, NATSO Foundation Board of Directors voted to raise the amount of the scholarship to $ 5,000. The origin of the Bill Moon Scholarship Program can be traced to 1989, when the Mason-Dixon Truck Stop working Association made a $ 5,000 contribution for use in establishing an industry scholarship program. In 1993, the northeastern Truckstop working Association made a $ 5,000 contribution and Carolyn Moon added an additional $ 10,000. The NATSO Foundation began awarding scholarships to the industrial workers and their families in 1993.

Bill Moon made substantial contributions NATSO, actively support and participate in the industry and related governance, serving as president of NATSO in 1989, and became the first president of The NATSO Foundation in 1990.

Education is always a Moon family priority. Bill and his wife, Carolyn, both graduated from Southwest Missouri State University, and all three of their children graduated from The University of Iowa.

Moon lost to cancer, in 1992, but he left a legacy that is carried on today by Carolyn Moon children. Fittingly, the scholarship program was named in memory.

Each spring and NATSO Foundation released the scholarship application and search are judged by an independent review and selection based on academic merit, financial need, industry-based, community activities and a short essay.
