2019 Commonwealth Scholarships (Masters & PhD) in UK for Developing Countries – Application is now open to CSC Commonwealth scholarships for Masters and PhD students from developing Commonwealth countries studying in the UK, funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID).

About education

2019 Commonwealth Scholarships  – Every year, Commonwealth scholarships for Master and PhD study in the UK are offered to citizens of Commonwealth developing countries. These scholarships are funded by the British Department for International Development (DFID), with the aim of contributing to the UK’s international development policies and extension of foreign interests, and support the best in the UK higher education , and maintaining the principles of the Commonwealth.

Eligibility Rules

To apply for these scholarships, you must:

  • Be Commonwealth people, refugees, or British protected person
  • Be permanently resident in a developing Commonwealth country
  • Be available to start your education studies in the UK start from the UK academic year in September / October 2016
  • By October 2017, took a first step at least become second class (2: 1) honors for example, two or class action and appropriate postgraduate qualification (usually a Master degree)

Each year, CSC invites selected nominating bodies to submit a specific number of presentations. The deadline for nominating body to submit nominations for the CSC is 13 December 2019.

Number of scholarships:

2019 Commonwealth Scholarships – Approximately 300 scholarships are awarded each year. The CSC call around three times more nominations than scholarships available – hence, candidates choose not assure the scholarship. No quotas for scholarships for a man less. Candidates selected country nominating agencies in competition with those selected universities / university bodies, and the same standards will be used by the application made by either channel.

Duration of scholarship: 12 months for Masters and up to 36 months for PhD

Value of scholarships: Each scholarship provides:

  • Approved airfare from your home to the UK and back at the end of your award (CSC will not reimburse the cost of fares for support, and usually fares before your award is finally confirmed)
  • Approved tuition and examination fees
  • Stipend (living allowance) at the rate of £ 1,043, or £ 1,279 for those in universities in the London metropolitan area (rates quoted at 2016-2017 levels)
  • Thesis Grant to the cost of preparing a thesis or dissertation, where the
  • Warm clothing allowance, where the
  • Research travel grant to the costs of research-related travel in the UK or abroad
  • For Expert PhD fieldwork grant to the cost of fieldwork undertaken abroad (usually the cost of one class to get airfare to your fieldwork location), where she agreed
  • For PhD Scholars, promised to pay mid-trip (airfare) to your home country (unless you claim (or intends to claim) spouse and / or child allowances during the scholarship, or have up airfare to your home country for fieldwork)
  • If the scholarship is at least 18 days long, the following family allowances:
  • Women’s allowance of £ 224 per month if you and your spouse are living together in this address in the UK (unless your husband and get a scholarship. Other conditions apply)
  • Child allowance of £ 224 per month for the first child, and £ 110 per month in the second and third child under the age of 16, if you are with your husband and children and live with you this address in the UK
  • If you are widowed, divorced, or single parents (without considering the length of your scholarship), child allowance of £ 448 per month for the first child, and £ 110 per month in the second and third child under 16 years, if you’re with children and live with you in this address in the UK The CSC family allowances are intended to be not only a contribution to the cost of maintaining the family in the UK. The true costs may be much higher, and must be able to supplement these allowances to support a family member who came to the UK with you.

USE way

You must apply to one of these nominating body in the first instance – the CSC does not permit direct application of these scholarships:

  • Select universities / university bodies, which can promote their own educational institution. See link below
  • Select non-governmental organizations and charitable bodies

2019 Commonwealth Scholarships – All applications must be made by the nominating body in the home country. Each nominating body is responsible for its own selection process. You must check with the nominating body for specific advice and rules for applying their own eligibility criteria, and their closing date for applications. The CSC does not impose any age limit on applicants, but nominating body can do so in line with their own priorities.

You must have an application using CSC’s Electronic Application System (EAS), in addition to an application form that you are required to complete by nominating your body.

Your application must be submitted to and approved by one of the approved nominating bodies listed above. The CSC will not accept any application was submitted via EAS to the nominating body in the home country.

2019 Commonwealth Scholarships (Masters & PhD) in UK for Developing Countries

You may complete and submit your application as soon as possible, as the EAS will be very effective, in the days leading up to application performance.

You must provide the following supporting documents may be obtained by CSC by 6 January 2019 in order for your application to be eligible for consideration:

  • References from at least two people
  • history
  • For PhD candidates only, supporting the statement of a proposed survey in the UK by at least one of the institutions named on your application form
  • Important: Should you want to study in UK universities and CSC is part funding agreement.
